So I’m thinking about selling my truck and getting something more fuel efficient. I can’t be driving around nowadays spending crazy money on gas. My job isn’t exactly in a secure industry, so I’d like to keep as much money in my bank account as possible. I thought about a VW bug or Mini Cooper, but I kind of like the idea of going extreme and getting a moped or scooter. Here is what I found so far in my research. I still have yet to decide.
Mopeds vs. Scooters
There are a lot of discussions going on to define between mopeds vs scooters. At times this discussion goes of into such extremes that many people get heated up and start arguing with each other. It is not their fault that these two are being differentiated. Both mopeds vs. scooters are basically the same thing and both run on petrol, so how does one define between mopeds vs. scooters? This is a huge issue and depends on which state of the US you are discussing in. Yes, this is correct. There are a number of differences in the laws of different states that define what are mopeds vs. scooters. In fact it is not just mopeds vs. scooters but the classification of 2 wheelers that run on fuel have been broadly classified into 4 different categories.
While this definition might not be correct for all states of the US, it is taking the rules of the state of New York to define what is mopeds vs. scooters is. This also gives the readers of a broad idea of how two wheelers that run on fuel are rated as and what are their basic differences. The first grade goes to the classification known as the `full motorcycle’. This two-wheeler should have a top running speed of over 40mph and should have an engine that is larger than 150cc. In order to drive this one needs to have a class motorcycle permit or a junior motorcycle permit. In order to drive a motorcycle in New York, one must get it registered, a title is required for driving the same, the driver should wear a helmet and have adequate eye protection in the form of wind goggles.

The full motorcycle may operate on any traffic lane, should be insured and has to be inspected before one can drive the same. In comparison, the moped running in New York is defined as a two-wheeler vehicle running on petrol whose top speed should be between 20 to 30mph and whose engine should have a capacity less than 50cc. One can use the same if they possess either a class motorcycle permit or even a junior motorcycle permit. Registration is required for the moped to, though title is not required. Those who are driving a moped must have adequate eye protection and should also wear a helmet.
The moped does not have full access to all the traffic lanes and can only be driven on the right lane/ shoulder only. One also needs to have insurance for their mopeds along with inspection papers too. These details are valid for the state of New York only and may vary for other states. Those who are still puzzled whether it is mopeds vs. scooters can check out the net for the guidelines that are applicable for other states. For those who are interested, there are two other categories for two wheelers in New York. They are the motor driven cycle and the motorized bicycle.
